Data on Drowning:
- About 10 people die every day from unintentional drowning that is not related to boating. This leads to a total of 3,500 deaths per year from drowning alone
- Drowning Accidents have also claimed the lives of children, about two children aged 14 or older each day
- Drowning has always been the number one cause of accidental death for children between the ages of one and four
The statistics and facts about drowning
- Children under the age of five are particularly more likely to drown than die in car accidents
- The majority of preschoolers who drown are under the supervision of at least one parent, with 88 percent of these accidents occurring in the presence of an adult.
Tips for Precautions with Water
General Precautions for safety
- Enroll for swim lessons conducted by qualified instructors
- Always swim with someone and make sure that the adult supervisor has full knowledge of CPR, first aid and rescue techniques.
Pool norms
- Be careful with glass containers and running near pools, and only allow diving in designated areas
- Be careful not to eat or chew bubbles while floating, and use a Coast Guard Approved Life Jacket for boating.
Response to an Emergency
- Use a flotation device to call for help to someone in trouble
- Clean the water (pool) at the first sign of lightning or storms
A Balanced Safety Strategy
- Improved Water Safety
Secure the swimming pool with proper fencing, gates, gate latches, and alarms
- Safer Children
Maintain adult supervision and continue the child’s education for approximately six months at most from the beginning
- A Safer Reaction
Must have experience in CPR and rescue operations. Always have an emergency plan ready and keep your phone close to you
How to respond in case of an emergency
- Make sure it’s safe before helping, and make sure you call for help loudly.
- If a kid is present, cautiously make your way to the deck.
- Verify breathing and unconsciousness, and begin CPR or rescue breathing if needed.
- If there is anyone else around, dial 9-1-1 right away; if not, wait a minute.
Preventive measures and early education
Drowning chances can be significantly decreased by taking basic swimming lessons and learning the foundations of water safety. It is imperative that adults and parents actively teach their kids about water safety.
Additional Resources
The American Red Cross and the Swim for Life website are excellent sites for learning about water safety and drowning precautions. They offer comprehensive advice.
Increase self-confidence and security
Back float: Increasing students’ comfort and safety in the water by teaching them to float on their backs
Breathe control: Methods for teaching individuals to regulate their breathing when submerged
Emergency Responses: Educating kids on what to do in the event of a water disaster.
Our classes for beginners are important
Pay attention to safety techniques. To ensure their safety and to help them gain confidence, students must learn how to back float, manage their breathing, and react to situations. These abilities are all imparted in a nurturing setting to ensure that learning is both pleasurable and productive.
Advancement of basic Skills
Breathing correctly: Learn how to breathe when you’re drinking.
Arm motion: teaching the proper arm motions for various strokes
Head rotation and stroke timing: synchronizing header rotation and stroke time for effective swimming
We progress to increasingly challenging techniques as pupils develop confidence, like proper breathing, arm motions, and timing strokes with head rotation. It takes these fundamental abilities to be a competent swimmer.
Progressive development of abilities
In competition four strokes used: competence in the butterfly, breaststroke, and backstroke in freestyle
Low student-to-teacher ratio: Providing individualized attention and direction
Personalized pace of learning: Encouraging students to advance at their own speed to achieve optimal learning
Our small instructor-to-student ratio guarantees that each student receives individualized attention in our advanced sessions, which are centered around four competencies.
This method makes learning fun and stress-free by allowing kids to advance at their speed.
Customized and flexible education
Group instruction: A cooperative setting with peers
Private lessons: Individualized guidance to enhance certain skills
Semi-private instruction: Individualized but social learning in a small group setting
Swim Jim provides a variety of instruction types to accommodate various requirements and learning styles. While semi-private lessons fill in the gaps with a small group setting, private lessons concentrate on one-on-one education. Group lessons offer a collaborative environment. This flexibility is intended to guarantee that every child may locate an appropriate educational setting.
An emphasis on water safety
Teaching vital skills to prevent drowning is known as life-saving education.
Workshop on Drowning Prevention: Teaching Families and Kids About Water Safety
Community Outreach: Getting involved in the community to raise awareness of water safety
The emphasis on water safety provided by Swimjim’s educational program is quite impressive. We hold workshops on drowning prevention, describe life-saving skills that can protect from drowning, and keep up with neighborhood initiatives to raise awareness of water safety. Our purpose is to make sure every student understands the value of water safety and can swim.
